(Editors note: The Bombay Outdoors team recently spent time at a studio photoshoot, focusing on items that will be featured for sale on BombayCompany.com this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, and we thought it would be fun to give you a “behind the scenes” look at what it takes to style and coordinate a photoshoot. Take it away, Elise!)
It’s unbelievable how much work goes into the product photos you glance at for one second on a website.
It truly takes a small army to manage the process of getting the furniture to the studio and organizing the props and accessories on the set…
We were very excited last week to collaborate with the very talented Tom Drew, professional product photographer. Check out his portfolio at ThomasDrew.com.
Tom has an extensive portfolio and was a pleasure to work with. He took the time to explain the types of lights and lighting technique behind each shot, which was interesting and fun to learn.
The Product Designers
Our “army” included members of the team from the multiple departments. Take a look at some of the behind the scenes shots below to see how our talented crew worked together on outdoor product photos in a studio.
Brooks has a degree in Cinematography from USC Film School as well as Textile & Surface Design degree from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Prior to joining the Bombay team, he worked at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. That’s right: I’m talking about the “Oscars” academy! So he is quite familiar with sets, props and studios, which was quite an advantage on our set.
“It’s exciting to see the Luxembourg Planter I designed go from a sketch on a piece of paper to something real behind the camera’s lens” Brooks says. (See what’s inspiring Brooks and the rest of the design team on our Bombay Outdoors Pinterest page.)
Here’s Alex, another Bombay designer, styling a planter before it goes on set for the next shot.
Alex has a degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design, or SCAD, (a school with stunning architecture — see below!) and uses her extensive textile knowledge in designing for Bombay Outdoors. She also loves rock climbing and tackling all sorts of DIY projects!
Others at the Photoshoot
Here I am, making sure that the lemons are nicely angled and in position in our Luxembourg Planter.
I’m the marketing lead for Bombay Outdoors. My background is in public relations and marketing, and I get to work on a lot of different projects with the Bombay team. I’m hands on and have an affinity for home décor and outdoor living. I can’t wait for the snow to melt so I can get outside to start planting flowers and a small garden.
I loved getting into the studio with the team and seeing the products come to life in front of the camera. Follow me and the other designers on the Bombay Outdoors Pinterest page if you love knowing what is trending in outdoor decor.
Here’s Kristin, who oversees Bombay Outdoors, and Ralph, who manages “The Studio”. We have an internal design studio responsible for everything from marketing presentations to packaging design.
Kristin is currently working with the Bombay design team on some exciting new products to add to the mix for 2016. Take a peek at what is inspiring Kristin on her Bombay Outdoors Pinterest board.
Here’s Joseph, Technical Designer, responsible for photography at our company, and part of the “The Studio” Ralph manages. Joe was capturing video footage of the team working together.
Here’s Emmon, who curates our Bombay Outdoors website and Facebook page, eagerly getting close-up shots of products being set up.
While we don’t have photos to share of Jian, Janet, Sarah, Lindsay, and Matt, they round out the team that bring the brand to life!
Our team had a fantastic time on set and we’re excited to share the final images with you in the upcoming weeks. Of course, we’re even more excited to reveal all of the items that will be sold exclusively on BombayCompany.com, so stay tuned!
We know many of you love outdoor photography as much as we do. We love seeing your photos! Please continue to post your photos on our Bombay Outdoors Facebook page!
