Where’s your “go-to” summer spot, the place where you can kick off your shoes, sip a glass of something cool, and relax?
Outdoor spaces range from luxurious three-season porches and poolside cabanas to tiny terraces on high rises, and wherever you can truly relax and enjoy the outdoors is the perfect spot for you.
Having a small outdoor area doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort or style as you will see from the pictures below. We looked for and found a variety of decorating options that can not only work in small spaces but can also be used in larger spaces.
Outdoor Spaces with Global Decor
We’ve featured global outdoor décor before for large spaces, but it’s also wonderful way to make a big impression in a tiny area.
Festive Mexican artwork and bright colors make the sitting area above a cheerful place for small group conversations.
Wicker patio furniture is used around the world though the style varies.
This patio, though in Los Angeles, is inspired by Morocco — notice the hanging lantern and outdoor fabrics.

This little patio, which we spotted on HouseBeautiful.com, was inspired by the intimate, romantic courtyards in the French Quarter, the oldest neighborhood in New Orleans.
In the Backyard “Garden”
You know those glossy pictures of people eating al fresco on the top of a mountain or on the beach? Well, I personally think food tastes just as good in your backyard, wherever that may be. If you don’t have a patio or deck, who cares? Set up a table in your garden…

I love the way this small outdoor space is surrounded by plants and how the owner incorporated a mirror as a design element. Makes you want to sit and drink the lemonade, doesn’t it?

This Chicago terrace was featured as one of Apartment Therapy’s “best” of 2013. We couldn’t agree more and love the original use of hanging fabric.

This may not work with your climate but if you don’t get a lot of rain or have a covered space, this adorable set up could work for you too.

Last But Not Least
Here are outdoor spaces dear to our heart. We have wonderful Facebook followers posting their outdoor photos on our Bombay Outdoors Facebook page.
Jody Hutchens posted this gem, which she describes as a “little space where my husband and I like to sit and have breakfast.”
(We adore Jody’s lamp turned into a planter!)
Cynthia Jarosz posted her garden and front porch, within which was nestled this small sitting area. We love how Cynthia has this spot surrounded by garden planters, mosaic tiling and other decor!
And finally, the urban backyard of Mary Lou Crivello-Cipolla, who could not have said it better: “This is my whole NY garden! It’s little but it’s mine!!!!”
