It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy.

If you’re like us, you’re spending a lot of time outdoors with friends and family. We’ve already been to four graduation parties, a rehearsal dinner, and three barbecues on various decks, patios and porches (including ours).

I’m particularly enjoying my friends’ creative tablescape ideas as well as what’s been appearing on the web and in magazines. All have given me some fantastic ideas of my own.

Thus far, I’ve seen three general décor “themes,” Color, Floral, and Global. Of course, they contain aspects of each other, so you can personalize them to suit your taste.

Tablescape Ideas: Bright Colors

After the terrible winter that so many of us had, it’s a huge relief to see pops of bright, bold color.

The neon green and hot pink in these place settings capture the happy-do-lucky spirit of the season.

This New York farmhouse patio uses a lovely aqua color for this tablescape.

Here the oranges and napkin holder contrast beautifully with the crisp white place settings.

Here are three examples. On the left is my kind of tableware — bold, happy colors that make everything seems better. The next two both use one color for a cheery effect.

Tablescape Ideas: Pretty Florals

I love the quote by Emma Goldman, “I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck,” but I’d change the word “roses” to flowers of any kind. These next pictures show how adding flowers makes the whole table look pretty.

You don’t need crystal vases to display your flowers, as these next three examples prove.

The colors in these flowers remind me of sunsets over the lake.

I adore this “secret garden” and can imagine the fragrance of all the flowers hanging in the air.

Tablescape Ideas: Global Influences

Summer entertaining tends to be casual, so it’s a great time to experiment with new recipes and flavors.

Cinco de Mayo’s come and gone, but you can still have a Mexican-themed party with one of my favorites, guacamole.

These next two tablescapes have a European flair. Notice how the candle sticks make the first seem quite formal…

…while this second seems more casual, despite the fine china.
